MY SIX BEST ALBUMS : BARBARA DICKSON

Singer and actress Barbara, 58, has sold millions of records and won two Olivier awards for her stage work. In 2001, she received an OBE for services to music and drama.

JAMES TAYLOR: HOURGLASS (Columbia)

James is my favourite artist and a great influence on my work. This album is comparatively recent and full of wonderful, reflective songs.

THE BEATLES: SGT PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB
BAND (EM!}

This will always be among my favourite recordings. It had a
huge impact on all my generation.

RANDY NEWMAN: BAD LOVE (DreamWorks)

When I was working in the West End in Spend Spend Spend, I
filled my dressing room with recordings so that I could escape
by listening to music. This album is stuffed full of great songs.

BOB DYLAN: THE FREEWHEELIN' BOB DYLAN (Columbia)

An old Dylan record from his early years. It's hard to believe that such a young man could write such profound songs with not much experience of life. He was truly an original - even then.

THE BAND: THE BAND (Capitol)

Dylan's one-time backing band of mainly bearded Canadians, except for Levon Helm, the drummer. Fantastic songs and instrumentation.

DONALD FAGEN: THE NIGHTFLY (Warners)

I'm a fan of Steely Dan and the main songwriter's solo album. It's a collection of intelligent songs put together in a cool, musical way.
